We have reviewed the Council Officers' comments on the Reading Golf Club application.
We are opposed to the development of 223 properties at Reading Golf Club as the proposed development remains contrary to both the Ca1b allocation as well as policies in the Local Plan. The Local Plan is still a recent document, prepared in some detail, and we would encourage it to be upheld. The developer has not established that there are material considerations which provide "objective and substantial" reasons for outweighing the conflict with Local Plan policies, and the application should again be refused.
Does the Council want to set the massive precedent of going against their own Local Plan, being responsible for the largest loss of undesignated open space over the last 10 years in Reading, for the sake of only 14 3+ bed genuinely affordable properties?
There are many mistakes and omissions in the Council Officers' report which we have highlighted in the attached document. We would encourage Councillors to do the right thing and reject this application, as this development would genuinely change the face of Emmer Green and Caversham forever.
