As we await submission of a formal Planning Application from Reading Golf Club/Fairfax Properties to build 260 dwellings on the Golf Club’s land within Reading Borough, we wanted to bring you up to date with the situation regarding the Golf Club’s land in South Oxfordshire.
Golf Club Proposes 350 Further Dwellings
South Oxfordshire District Council (SODC) submitted their Local Plan 2034 together with representations made by various parties to the Secretary of State on Friday 29 March 2019 for independent examination into the soundness of the Plan.
Following the Inspector's initial review of the plan and the representations, a series of hearings will take place starting on 14 July 2020. Further information about the hearings can be found on the SODC website - Local Plan 2034 Examination
Although SODC explicitly excluded the Reading Golf Club land which lies within South Oxfordshire from their Local Plan, (Click here to see KEG News supplement Jan 2019), RGC and Fairfax are pulling out all the stops to persuade SODC to include the RGC land in South Oxfordshire into their Emerging Local Plan on which to build up to 350 further dwellings.
Despite SODC rejecting the inclusion of Golf Club land in their Emerging Local Plan, Reading Golf Club and Fairfax are lobbying very strongly that SODC’s position should change and have submitted their rationale in writing to SODC. Two documents from the submission to SODC are attached to this newsletter.

Additional Access Points
The map below indicates the land involved and shows where access to the proposed development is being suggested. The points of access are at the end of Highdown Hill Road, in Kidmore End Road opposite Crawshay Drive and in Tanners Lane.

We have given warnings before that Reading Golf Club’s land in South Oxfordshire is in danger of development in addition to that within Reading. Some people have dismissed this as only a possibility but it is clear now as to the danger our community faces if we do not act to make our feelings known.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions the Inspector's Hearings of the SODC Local Plan will not be open to the public but will take place ‘virtually’ via Microsoft Teams. We will be following the proceedings as best we can and will report further on the outcome in due course.
Please share in the community
Please share this email with your family, neighbours and friends in the local community because with continued support from everyone in the community we will be able to put forward a strong opposition to the development on the Golf Course in both Reading and South Oxfordshire districts.
