The public consultation for the planning application by Reading Golf Club (RGC) / Fairfax to build 257 homes on 12 hectares of land within Reading Borough closed on 18th March 2021.
Keep Emmer Green (KEG) can now confirm that a record-breaking number of over 3,000 objections have been received by Reading Borough Council, easily exceeding the 2,000 objections lodged against a very similar application withdrawn by the developers in November 2020.
Approximately 200 letters of support for the development were received by the Council.
KEG considers that the number of objections to the application is absolutely staggering and reflects the dismay of local residents at the loss of green open space and the lack of infrastructure to cope with such a large development.
In the face of such an unequivocal message, we would encourage Reading Golf Club to rethink their approach to the local community and for them to reconsider their concrete legacy for Caversham and Emmer Green.
It is expected that the application will be discussed at the Planning Committee meeting scheduled for June 2021, where we hope and expect that the council will refuse an application littered with mistakes and omissions, is contrary to so many council development policies as well as the declaration of a climate emergency.
