There have been two recent developments concerning the land owned by Reading Golf Club.
Planning application for 257 houses in Emmer Green
We have been advised that a decision on the application to build 257 homes on the Golf Club land in Reading will not now be heard at the June meeting of the Planning Committee. Following discussions between the Golf Club and Reading Borough Council it was agreed that the Golf Club required further time to respond to comments made by Consultees concerning trees and transport. The responses have been published on the Council website and there is now an opportunity for interested parties to make further comments. Click here and then view documents received on 27/05/2021.
We will keep you informed on this. At the present time it is understood that the application will be decided at the meeting of the Planning Committee on 21 July 2021.
Planning application for kiosk/toilets in South Oxfordshire
RGC have made a planning application to SODC to permit the replacement of the existing metal container on that land with a larger structure to service the 9 hole golf course, disc golf and foot golf recreational facilities which they have been operating from this location off Tanners Lane since the end of May 2021. The new building will also be used as a catering outlet for public use as well as for those using the sporting facilities.
The existing car park has previously been used only by members of Reading Golf Club on a very few occasions each year and consequently never had planning permission as an access point. There are places in the car park for approximately 20 vehicles and this car park will be the only entrance point for access into the site for all traffic including grass cutting and maintenance equipment as well as fuel, catering deliveries and waste collection. There is no proposed access from the Reading Borough Council land where there is currently a planning application for 257 homes to be built.
This sporting facility is substantially less than that recommended following the formal Government Inspector’s examination of the Reading Local Plan and KEG considers that operating a commercial venture of this size from Tanners Lane is highly undesirable and dangerous as the approach from all directions to the car park entrance in Tanners Lane is very narrow and there are no footpaths. The roads around the entrance are also used by horses and riders from the nearby stables as well as the many walkers frequenting the area.
KEG intends therefore to oppose the application and request that a full planning application for a change of use be required. This will enable proper consideration to be given to all aspects of the venture and to ensure the safety and protection of pedestrians, cyclists, motorists and the beauty and tranquillity of the area.
Full details of the application can be found by following this link where any comments can be made for consideration by the planning officer.

If you wish to object, the closing date is 19 June 2021, which is only a few days away.
Your grounds for objection could include some or all of the following comments:
A full planning application for change of use should be required for this commercial venture
There are no pavements in the area making access dangerous for pedestrians
The proposed car parking space is inadequate
There is inadequate access to the site for delivery and maintenance vehicles
The narrow roads in the surrounding area are inadequate to service the increase in the volume of traffic which will be generated by users of the new sports facilities, as well as visitors to the proposed country park and allotments. All of these can only get there via Tanners Lane
As always, thank you so much for your support and if you have any comments, questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us.
