In 2020 Reading Golf Club wanted to build 275 properties - the application was withdrawn after significant public objection. A later application for 257 properties was rejected by the council. The community raised over 3000 objections to the rejected application - a record for the borough.
A new application is being proposed for 223 properties on 33 acres of beautiful greenfield land, cutting down numerous trees. This is over-development; Reading's local plan proposed 90 houses on 7 acres with no large scale development north of the river Thames due to traffic congestion and a lack of services.
The land promoter, Fairfax are having a ‘virtual consultation event’ between the 18th October and the 1st November.
We have pitched our own vision for the land which would benefit thousands of residents from Reading over the next hundred years - Grove Arboretum. This is a better long term use for the area than a housing estate.
How can I help?
We've worked hard so far and have relied on a number of professionals' time for free, but now that the developer has access to all the objections from the previous applications we really need to get additional professionals to help. We will still work as hard, or even harder, to stop Emmer Green turning in to a building site, and we need your help again.
